The second appointment in the span of two weeks that didn’t go according to plan. Therapy edition.
After trying therapy several times over the years and quitting each time, I decided it was time to try again. As a 31-year old mom, I decided it was up to me to handle my emotions and maybe seek a little bit of professional help. I know my husband will thank me for this one day.
I found a handy dandy website that allowed me to scroll through pictures and bio’s of the four therapists in Boone that were available to me through insurance. After finding the perfect one, I sent an email in hopes to hear back soon.
One thing led to another and I ended up with an appointment the next Friday at 9:00am. I spent the following week thinking of how my first therapy session (as an adult who wanted to be in therapy) would go.
Friday morning came and I left my child with her father and headed into town. It was a whopping 10 degrees when I left my house and had risen 3 degrees by the time I’d gotten to Boone. Even with the use of the Geepus (GPS) I found myself lost. Usually I have a pretty good sense of direction but it was not the case that day. It didn’t help that it was one of those buildings that was actually multiple buildings with all kinds of letters and numbers designating which was which and there was no discernable pattern.
After walking around for 10 minutes in the below freezing cold, I finally decided to call her. It was 9:02 at this point and I didn’t want her to think I wasn’t going to show up. After all, I had finally decided to take therapy seriously.
She answered the phone and I said something like “Hi, I’m here but I’m lost.” She said something like “I tried to get in touch with you. I can’t get out of my house. My garage door is frozen shut.” I hurried back to the truck so I didn’t freeze to the spot. What a random thing to have happened.
She had emailed me but I DIDN’T SEE IT. I had just submitted my very first query letter the day before (eeeek) and decided to only check my email once before bed. My notifications have long been turned off and so I missed it. I’ve checked my email about ten times every day since.
She mentioned rescheduling but it hasn’t happened yet. Next time, I will definitely check my email before leaving the house. Especially if it’s less than 20 degrees.
